UK Day 11: In Which Carlisle: Who Knew? The Path is Dangerous, and John Hodgson Makes a Name for Himself

Such a friendly car park.

It's easy to overlook all sorts of cool places when you have limited time and so it was with Carlisle, which I had no intention of visiting until it became necessary to drop Zoe and Georgia at the train station for their daytrip to Glasgow. Travis and I spotted a few cute little streets and shops and decided to stay for a visit.
Apart from not being able to understand anyone, we loved it.

I really wanted to visit the cathedral (as I always do) and Travis is always game to do anything so we made our way over there only to find these signs. We weighed the pros and cons of walking down the pathway and decided we would risk it.

During the 10 second walk down the Path of Peril, nothing at all happened, and we emerged unscathed into a car park where more danger awaited:

With our plans to scale the walls scuttled, we instead made our way to the cathedral, which was lovely.

I think I'm going to redo my living room ceiling like this.

Not sure who John Hodgson was but signing your own name and the date is a bit of a dead give away as to who did it.

Vicar: 'And Amen. Thank you for attending the service today and just a quick note, there is some new graffiti on the confessional this morning. Before you all leave, would John Hodgson please see me on his way out as I believe he has something to tell me'
John Hodgson's mum: 'How do you know it was him? Could have been anyone'
Vicar: 'Well he did sign his name and the date'
Mum:

I always love looking at the bulletin boards in churchs and public spaces - it's a great way to gain a sense of what the locals are up to. Sadly we will miss this concert advertised on the St Cuthbert's Church bulletin board and I'm not exactly sure what furry feathery favourites are but I'm sure it will be a hit with the retired farming crowd here in Carlisle.

After a bit of grocery shopping where we once again spent hardly anything and walked out with a ton of groceries - food is so cheap here! - we drove back to High Houses where the rest of our day was spent doing blissful nothing until it was time to zip back to Carlise to pick up the girls, who had had a great day in Glasgow and came back with more clothes and accessories than they brought on the entire trip.

Tomorrow we are off on another Great Day Out, this time to the Skelton Country Fair where Travis is interviewed by the announcer and does a cracking job of it.

Cheers,
Jane
